He spoke to our Alumni team about life at Leicester College, his university experiences and his plans for the future.
“Since starting at Leicester College I developed more confidence in determining what my goals are and how I would be able to achieve them,” said Bhavesh “From studying my chosen course in Applied Science I have been able to broaden my options when applying to university.
The skills I learnt at Leicester College which I found particularly useful were organisational skills to keep track and on top of deadlines, building rapport with others and team working when under lab conditions.
Bhavesh is now studying a BSc (Hons) in Food Science at the University of Leeds. “The highlight of starting university has been meeting new students and being able to develop into a young professional,” he said. “Also, becoming student ambassador for the School of Food Science and Nutrition was a proud moment.”
Of course, progressing to university has also posed some challenges for Bhavesh. “Preparing for all of the exams and presentations has been challenging,” he said.
However, Bhavesh is clearly firmly focussed on the end goal his hard work will achieve as he talks about his plans for after university.
“I aim to be employed by a reputable company and have a food manufacturing business on the side,” he said. “I also want to mentor students who are thinking of going to university for higher education. Over the next five years I will be employed and earning a reasonable salary, and also developing new relationships with other professionals and building myself up to the highest position.”
Finally, our Alumni team asked Bhavesh if he had any advice for others hoping to go to university.
“Be prepared for any challenges throughout your time at university,” he said. Make the most out of it, ensure a humble personality and always support your peers. Everyone has a goal so some are not willing to sacrifice their time and knowledge to achieve it, always make sure you are prepared to overcome obstacles at any time, learn from mistakes and move forward.”
