After achieving her Level 2 qualification in Hair and Beauty at Leicester College, Rehana is now successfully self-employed in the industry she had always dreamed of working in.
She spoke to our Alumni Team about her decision to change her career, her proudest moments and how Leicester College helped her find the confidence to set up her own business.
“My proudest career moments are when my clients are happy with my treatments and appreciate my work, and recommend me to their friends and contacts,” Rehana said.
Changing her career
“I have had a huge career change. I worked as a tutor in India, then as a Teaching Assistant in Leicester in a primary school,” she told us. “But I had a wish that someday I would work in the Hair and Beauty industry. When I had decided, I just followed my dream.”
“Definitely if it wasn’t for attending Leicester College, especially as they offer courses for 24+ learners, then I wouldn’t be where I am today. I gained the necessary confidence and customer service skills, and did practical training alongside my tutorials. Most importantly, my course prepared me to work in the real world.
“Since I have qualified in the Hair and Beauty industry, I now work as a self-employed Beautician, Hair Stylist and Bridal Hair and Make-up Artist,” said Rehana. “I also work as a consultant for The Body Shop At Home.
“As I am the owner of my own home-based salon, my daily responsibilities include offering treatments, consultations, maintaining records and marketing my own business.”
Planning for the future
“The biggest challenge I have is promoting my own business and maintaining a balance between my personal commitments and my profession,” Rehana admitted. “But one day I hope to own a bigger salon and achieve huge success.
“My advice to other learners hoping to work in the same industry, or to find self-employment, is to have passion, love and commitment for your work. If you have it in yourself, then go for it.
“Of course, Leicester College is the best place to get your training.”
We couldn’t agree more, Rehana, and wish you the very best of luck.
