Leicester College has named The Laura Centre as the official College charity for the 2016/2017 academic year.
Opened by the bereavement charity COPE in 1991, The Laura Centre offers specialist bereavement counselling to parents whose child has died and to children or young people who have been bereaved of a parent or significant person.
Based in Leicester with new centres due to open in Derby and Coventry, the centre offers wide ranging individual and group support as well as a variety of alternative therapies. www.thelauracentre.org.uk
The Learner Engagement and Enrichment Team was pleased to welcome Gail Moore from The Laura Centre who shared her gratitude at the college choosing the Charity as this year’s beneficiaries.
Also at the launch event were representatives from the outgoing charity Open Hands. After a successful year of fund raising for the College charity with challenges, samosa sales, cake sales, raffles, football competitions, sports days etc, the College were delighted to be able to hand over a cheque for £8,210.45 topping last year’s £5,141.22 donated to The Bridge.
Deputy Principal, Shabir Ismail said “Supporting local charities was not only important for the money raised but that it gives learners valuable experiences that they could take into the world of work. Over 400 learners voted for The Laura Centre and we’re hoping to beat this year’s figure.”
